Celebrating Small Business Week

Why Every Entrepreneur Deserves Recognition

Written by Rumella Cameron, CEO

Small Business Week, celebrated from May 4–10, is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a powerful opportunity to honor the incredible visionaries behind the small businesses that keep our economy and communities thriving. And as someone who’s been walking this entrepreneurial journey for over a decade, I know firsthand just how much sacrifice, creativity, and resilience it takes to build and sustain something of your own.

When I started Conversance Business Solutions, it was born out of necessity and purpose. I saw small businesses struggling to keep up with the administrative, operational, and marketing demands of running a business, and I knew I had the tools and the drive to help. Since then, I’ve helped entrepreneurs at all stages: from launching LLCs and building business plans to scaling operations and securing funding. Every day, I get to help others turn ideas into income and structure into scalability.

This week is a celebration of you—the dreamers, the doers, and the builders. Whether you’re just getting started or decades in, your work matters, and your journey deserves to be recognized.

The Power of Small Businesses

We’ve all seen the stats: small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses and employ nearly half of the private workforce. But beyond the numbers is something even more valuable: the heart behind every venture.

Every small business owner I’ve worked with has a story. It’s not just about profit margins—it’s about building a legacy, changing lives, and impacting communities. Whether you’re a freelance creative, a smoke shop owner, a personal trainer, or a full-scale agency, your contribution matters.

Small businesses create:

  • Jobs for our neighbors

  • Support for local economies

  • Personalized, authentic customer experiences
  • Diverse products and services are often missing from larger chains

And most importantly, they create hope—the belief that someone like you can turn a vision into something real.

Why Recognition Matters

Being an entrepreneur is often a thankless job. You wear all the hats, juggle all the roles, and push forward even when the path isn’t clear. That’s why recognition during Small Business Week is about so much more than a social media post.

It’s about:

  • Visibility: Sharing your story so others know you exist and how you serve.
  • Inspiration: Encouraging the next entrepreneur who’s still figuring it out.
  • Momentum: Reigniting your own passion and commitment to your goals.

👉 Pro tip: Use this week to share your business story—where you started, what you’ve overcome, and what you’re building next. Feature your wins, tag your supporters, and celebrate every milestone, even the quiet ones.

How to Make the Most of Small Business Week

This is your moment to pause and reflect. Take time to look at what’s working, what’s not, and what’s next. Here’s how I recommend using this week to your advantage:

1. Take Inventory

Ask yourself:

  • What have I accomplished this year?
  • What do I need to let go of?
  • What goals do I need to revisit?
  • Who can help me move faster?

I do this every quarter in my own business, and it helps keep me aligned with my vision, and not just busy with tasks.

2. Tell Your Story

Your audience wants to connect with YOU. Use your platforms to share your entrepreneurial journey, your values, and the “why” behind your business.

3. Reinvest in Yourself

Whether it’s hiring a virtual assistant, upgrading your systems, or booking a VIP Strategy Day, make sure you’re not the bottleneck in your growth.

4. Celebrate With Others

Support another small business this week. Leave a review, make a referral, or shout them out online. We rise by lifting each other.

Small Business ≠ Small Impact

I want to emphasize this clearly: just because you’re small doesn’t mean your impact is.

Some of the biggest impacts I’ve witnessed in my 10+ years of entrepreneurship came from businesses with tiny teams but massive heart. They:

  • Created internships for teens in underserved communities
  • Built generational wealth through real estate and ownership
  • Donated time and skills to support nonprofits and movements
  • Sparked innovation in outdated industries

You don’t need a massive following or a six-figure launch to make a difference. You just need consistency, clarity, and community.
