Why I Started the Business Shower Networking Expo: Bridging the Gap for Entrepreneurs
From Vision to Impact: Why I started the Business Shower Networking Expo
Written by Rumella Cameron, Founder & CEO of Conversance Business Solutions
Entrepreneurship has always been about more than starting a business. At its core, it’s about access—access to information, resources, capital, mentorship, and community. Over the years, as I worked closely with entrepreneurs across industries, one thing became painfully clear: there was a major disconnect between business owners who needed support and the resources designed to help them succeed.
That disconnect became even more visible during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As businesses shut down, pivoted overnight, or struggled to survive, many entrepreneurs were left navigating uncertainty alone. While resources existed—grants, lenders, business services, and support organizations—many business owners didn’t know where to find them, how to access them, or who to trust. Information was scattered. Networks were fragmented. And for many small business owners, especially women and minority entrepreneurs, the gap felt overwhelming.
That’s when the idea for the Business Shower Networking Expo (BSNE) was born.
Seeing the Problem Up Close
Before BSNE, my work through Conversance Business Solutions involved helping entrepreneurs with business planning, operations, administrative systems, and strategy. I sat across the table from founders with incredible ideas—people who were passionate, driven, and talented—but often stuck because they lacked access to the right tools or guidance at the right time.
I saw business owners who:
- Didn’t know how to prepare for funding opportunities
- Had never met a lender or banker face-to-face
- Were overwhelmed by compliance requirements
- Lacked mentorship or accountability
- Didn’t have a trusted network to lean on
During COVID, these challenges intensified. Businesses were being asked to adapt faster than ever, yet many entrepreneurs were left out of critical conversations. The same question kept coming up: Where do I go for help?
That question stayed with me.
Creating a Space That Didn’t Exist
BSNE started as my way of giving back—of creating the kind of space I wished existed for the entrepreneurs I worked with every day. I wanted to build something that didn’t just talk about resources, but actually connected people to them in real time.
The idea was simple but powerful:
Bring entrepreneurs, lenders, service providers, community partners, and educators into the same room—with intention.
Not a traditional conference.
Not a sales-heavy expo.
Not another networking event where people exchange business cards and leave without follow-up.
The Business Shower Networking Expo was designed to feel welcoming, accessible, and celebratory—because entrepreneurship should be supported, not gatekeeps.
Why ”Business Shower”?
The name itself was intentional.
Just like a baby shower supports someone before a major life transition, the Business Shower Networking Expo was created to support entrepreneurs at pivotal moments in their journey—whether they were just starting, rebuilding, scaling, or pivoting.
Entrepreneurs deserve:
- Encouragement
- Preparation
- Resources
- Visibility
- Community
BSNE was built to provide all of that in one place.
From Idea to Impact
What started as a response to crisis quickly became something bigger. The first BSNE showed us what was possible when barriers were removed and collaboration was prioritized. Entrepreneurs showed up not just looking for help—but ready to share, learn, and support one another.
Since then, BSNE has evolved into an ecosystem-building experience:
- Entrepreneurs connect with lenders and funders
- Service providers educate without pressure
- Small businesses gain visibility
- Partnerships are formed organically
- Attendees leave with clarity, confidence, and next steps
One of the most rewarding parts of BSNE has been watching real outcomes unfold—business plans created, grants secured, partnerships formed, and businesses launched or expanded because someone finally had access to the right information and support.
Why This Work Matters
Entrepreneurship plays a critical role in economic development, job creation, and community growth. But when access is uneven, entire communities are left behind.
BSNE exists to challenge that reality.
It’s about leveling the playing field.
It’s about making resources visible and accessible.
It’s about empowering business owners with knowledge and connection.
It’s about creating a culture where entrepreneurs don’t feel isolated.
More importantly, it’s about reminding business owners that they are not alone.
Looking Ahead
As we prepare for the next Business Shower Networking Expo, I reflect not just on where BSNE started—but on why it must continue.
There is still work to be done.
There are still entrepreneurs searching for guidance.
There are still resources that need bridges built to reach the people who need them most.
BSNE is not just an event—it’s a commitment to community, collaboration, and economic empowerment. It’s proof that when entrepreneurs are supported intentionally, the impact extends far beyond individual businesses.
And that is why the Business Shower Networking Expo exists.
